Production Journal

This is my final production post and I would like to sum up what I have produce over this year's coursework and how I have coped with it.

I have produced a music video to the song Parklife sang by Blur, I have also produced a Digi Pack design and an advert for the Album. I used a flip camera to film the footage, a mac and final cut pro to edit the footage and photoshop elements to produce the Digi Pack and advert.

I also used Prezi to make my evaluation as we had to present it. This also gave my teacher something different to look at other than another powerpoint.

We got our idea for our music video because the song is called Parklife so we wanted to do something different from the obvious which worked out well considering our location problems we had and because it was a big set up we had to try and get all the filming done it one big chunk.

Overall I think we done well with lack of location and cast. Of course there is room for improvement to make it run a bit more smoothly.

Production Journal

Due to the feedback we got from our first rough cut, we had to re-film most of a footage, we made a few changes and made corrections that peers and our teacher's had pick up on.

For example, it was a bit too obvious that our 'office' was actually a school class room as we had posters and things around the room that gave it away, we made sure we took down or covered anything that made it look like a classroom.

We also changed the costume because we thought it was too casual so we decided the characters should wear shirts and ties, this made it look even more like an office.

We managed to re-film a lot of footage and we also filmed extra parts because of the feed back we had received. 

Editing Evidence

Here is a screen shot of a clip of our filming and also what our office looked like when it was finished and we had the cast in their positions.

This is a screen shot of Final Cut Pro the editing software that we using, and this shows how our clips and sound, were put together to make our work. 

This is a screen shot of another part of our footage, that Elliot went to London to film, this helps the audience understand that our footage will be shot in an office. Also the dark lighting will emphasize its late at night.

Advert Editing

This is my advert so far, I have changed it a lot of times but I think I have finally decided what looks good and what doesn't. I still need to add the extra's at the bottom like where it is available for example Itunes. 

I chose this picture because it is the picture I used for the front cover of my digi pack. I have put two images of moths on the ad to empathize the name of the band. I also chose to put an orange and black border because these seem to be the colour associated with the band.  

The name of the album will be 'Its an Office Life for me' this is because the video is set in an office, i positioned it on the notice board behind the band members so it looked like a notice.

Me and Elliot have done most of the editing that we can do with the footage we have. But we still have some footage that we need to shot and edit because some of the footage we done on the night we filmed the bulk of the footage didn't fit or we missed.

I have also been working on my digi pack and advert which are coming along well. I used the picture we took when doing the bulk of our filming. All I need to add are finishing touches.

Digi Pack Editing

This an up to date version of my digi pack and how it has come along so far and what I have made from feed back from teachers and friends.

The back is meant to look like a notice board with notices on it, which will be the name of other songs on the album. I also need to add the final touches at the bottom such as the DVD icon, the record label logo. I also wanted to change the interior flap as I don't like the picture very much but I have struggled to find a picture that would fit there instead. 

I have also used more moths on different covers so idea of moths is nearly always present and the band name is recognizable by just moths.  

Digi Pack Editing

This is a print screen of my digi pack and how it is coming along. I have used the pictures that we took when we did the filming and the logo that we made. I still need to fill in the other sides but I have rough ideas what I want to put there and how I am going to portray the band and the video.

Me and Elliot have done a lot of filming and a lot of editing and now we have some stuff that doesn't work and stuff that work's really well and after getting some feedback from our teacher about our rough cut we are pleased with what we have and know what we have to do to improve it for the final finished.

I have also been working on my digi-pack and poster with the photos we took while we was filming, as we have to use our own pictures. But I'm a struggling to find a picture that will fit the back of the digi-pack.

Rece Shots

I took this picture while we were filming of what our office looked like. We managed to transform a classroom into an office and did the bulk of our shooting when we took these pictures.

This is a wider shot of what the office looked like but there was one more board between the other two tables. We made sure there wasn't anything that looked too much like a classroom. 

This is a close up of once of the desks that we set up when we did our filming and how we used folders, computers and the filing cabinet to make it look more like an office than a classroom.

Because we used a school, our teacher thought it may have been hard to make it look like an office but with the resources we had and a little imagination, this is what we achieved   

Production Journal

Yesterday evening me and Elliot finally done our filming, we were starting to fall behind because we hadn't done any filming. But now we have pretty much done all our filming, unless we have to film extra stuff because they don't work. 


We filmed after school as we needed empty corridors and classrooms that we wouldn't get disturbed. After waiting for people to turn up and setting up our office scene. We then worked through our story board and a few looks at our animatic and we got all the shots that we needed done.


We only had a few problems like one of our actors didn't turn up and we had turn our band from 4 people to 3 because we were running out of time and we didn't have any other time to film. We had to cut some shots out because of this but we have made sure we filmed other stuff so we can fill in the parts we had to cut. 


The people that we used went well and we were able to film good footage that once edited will give us the edge we were trying to achieve.

We are planning to film on Thursday, we will get all of our cast together and get some real filming down and get some footage that we can edit and make into our music video.

We will make sure that things could go wrong for example the location may not be right, also some of the actors that we are planning to use may not be able to make the day we have planned.

We also plan to film on Friday as well, so we can look over the footage we have and film anything that needs filming that we may have missed Thursday

Production Journal

Today we showed our animatic to our class and our teacher, we got a much better result than our pitch and the finished animatic finally helped everyone understand what we are planning and are trying to achieve.

We finally have a strong story line for our music video, that is achievable and will work for the song we have chosen.

We still need to work a bit on our casting and get people who are for a definite going to be able to be in our music video.

Yesterday we pitched to idea to our class so we could talk about each others ideas and help each other develop their ideas.

Our pitch didn't go according to plan and from the feedback we received had a lot that we needed to improve. We have looked at all the feedback and we will now act on what we have been told by our peers and our teacher and improve our ideas and change parts that need changing.
